The truth is . . . I thought I was ready for January. My husband says "that's what I get for thinking" and he's usually right he was right!
So lets rewind a little to get to the truth of the matter. July 2015 I started this website and a Facebook page. Which was all good. Except it sent my photography adventure into warp speed. By August 2015 I was booked out for two months and when those two months flew by I was booked until December. September 2015 began 2 of the 6 weddings I would shoot until the end of the year. Yes, I said SIX weddings in 3 months. Which I thought was all well and good. I've done plenty of weddings before. Just not ALL so close together. Plus the fact that I never quit booking other clients for Senior sessions, Family sessions, Newborn sessions, Christmas sessions, etc. I was overbooked!
The Truth is:
Did you know about me that:
A) Photography is NOT my 1st job? I am an office manager by day.
B) Photography is NOT my 2nd job? I also keep the books for our farm.
C) Photography is NOT my real job? I am Mom to three amazing children!
The Truth is:
If I could rewind I probably wouldn't change much about the last 3 months because:
A) I enjoyed capturing every memory through my lenses
B) I have a hard time saying NO
C) It has taught me valuable life lessons
So I've learned that I am NOT Superwoman. Sad, but true.
Because I tried to be a working Mom first and foremost my days went like this: Work, photo sessions, cook, clean, help with homework/studying, then by 10:00ish I'd load, edit, back-up files, scout locations, research, gather props, upload files, burn files, etc, etc, until my eyes could not stay open any longer, then repeat. I did all this and still failed. Our computer was full to the max. I would scrounge for space moving files so that I could edit this session or order prints.
It's January, the month I so anticipated because I would not be so busy with sessions so I would be able to catch up on finishing sessions. I shot my last wedding on December 19th. When I picked my camera back up on Christmas day to capture our Christmas, not one darn picture would load on the computer, it was done! So again, optimistic Wendy says, "YES!, as soon as I get the new computer in I'll bust out all these overdue sessions". Earth to Wendy . . . . Noah did not build the ark in one day! I received the computer last week and have not had a chance to do anything! Because the truth is, all the normalcy of my life is not normal at all. Last week was just another crazy busy week; Lockwood turned 10 on Monday, finally made a Chiropractor appointment on Tuesday in hopes to walk without pain one day, Wednesday one of my best friends was diagnosed with MS, Thursday began taking steroids for horrible Sinus/Cold I've had for weeks, Saturday we went to celebrate our boy turning 10, and it's now Sunday (January 10th) and I've finally sat down with this computer. I'm not blabbing all of this for a pity party at all. I am not blabbing all of this to justify my failings. I want to document this point in my life so that I can use it as a goal. I have not been Wendy Jarrell for some time now, but Wendy Jarrell Photography. I am more than WJP. I want to be a wife to my loving husband, I want to continue to grow as a Mom to my children, I want to be a daughter and daughter-in-law, I want to be a sister, I want to be a friend, I want to be a volunteer, I want to be a soccer coach, I want to be a runner, and I want to be a photographer. Yes, I want it all. My goal for 2016 is to achieve balance in all of the above.
I am forever grateful to all the amazing people I'm surrounded by, all my wonderful clients, and this opportunity God has blessed me with. So thank you all for your patience, wisdom, and most of all your support. It truly means so much!
The Truth About My Life is that I need Balance!
Cheers to 2016, Everyone!
